Susie Green

Trans Child Advocate (She/Her)

Who am I

Susie is a UK based parent of a transgender child (now a young adult). For over 24 years I have been advocating on behalf my child and for other parents and their children. From October 1999 I was an active member of Mermaids, the UK charity for transgender children and teens and their families.

For the past 7 years (January 2016 until November 2023) I was CEO of Mermaids, following 8 years as a trustee and 3 years as Chair of the charity. Under my leadership Mermaids grew significantly from a completely voluntary organisation to a multi-million pound charity, providing support to thousands of families with transgender or gender non-conforming children. This was not without challenge, as Mermaids and I personally have faced extreme hostility due to the nature of our work. I started work in January 2023 with GenderGP, however, my heart lies in the charitable sector. I am a member of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) and represented young people and their families in the team writing the new Childrens Chapter for the global Standards of Care V8, released in September 2022.

As someone who has worked in the third sector for over twenty years, I am committed to ensuring that all children are respected and loved unconditionally.
